Back garden pub is brewing up a storm

by Alice Wright

As more and more pubs close across the country, one company has come up with an innovative way for customers to recreate that traditional tavern atmosphere in their own back garden.

Fishers Woodcrafts has released the Home Garden Pub, a timber garden building complete with bar and space for four to sit comfortably. There is also an optional sheltered veranda for al fresco drinking.

Steve Fisher, who designed the garden pub, said the idea came about after the company launched a range of home and garden bars three years ago. These proved hugely popular, but as the garden bars are exposed to the elements, they can only be used outside in the summer.

“That’s where the idea of the garden pub came into being,” says Steve. “It’s a unit that can be used all year round. This is the next step in home and garden leisure.”

As people are spending more time at home and in their gardens, Steve knew there would be a market for the mini pubs, but he couldn’t have guessed just how popular they would prove to be.

“The interest has just been phenomenal,” he says. The Home Garden Pub has attracted 1.7 million hits on Facebook in the last two weeks and there is a rapidly growing waiting list of orders.

Although the idea of turning garden sheds into personal pubs is not new, Steve says this product gives customers a ready-made option that they simply have to erect in their own garden.

“We’ve produced something that looks great, and it’s a unique product,” he says.

The Home Garden Pub is supplied flat pack in kit form for customers to construct themselves and there are two sizes to choose from, with prices currently starting at £1,179.00.

Extras like beer pumps and spirit dispensers are not included in the price, but Fishers Woodcrafts also stocks a range of bar accessories, so customers can create their ideal drinking den just stumbling distance from their own back door.
