Parklet ‘Fresh Air Squares’ to pop up in London

A series of moveable micro-parks are to start springing up in London parking spaces on busy roads later this year.

Fresh Air Squares will pop up in London Bridge and Vauxhall for a week to a year at a time, improving the local environment and raising awareness of air quality issues.

Team London Bridge, the area’s Business Improvement District, and its partners are running a competition to find designers for the miniature parks. They are aiming to create the first Fresh Air Square in September this year, followed by a further three to four in spring 2016. King’s College London will monitor the air around each parklet.

After the competition, four designs will be shortlisted, one from a student, and three from professional practices. The winning designer will receive a £10,000 commission to design and build the first Fresh Air Square.
