Zandra Rhodes and Joe Swift to create Greenwood Theatre ‘pocket park’.

Described as “a large brick eyesore” by Zandra Rhodes, the 70s built Greenwood Theatre, close to The Shard and due to overlook a major entrance to the new look London Bridge Station, is to receive a much-needed face-lift in the form of a wrap-around pocket park.

Zandra Rhodes fashion designer and founder of the nearby Fashion and Textiles Museum said that she jumped at the chance to work with designer and television presenter Joe Swift to enliven the space.” I felt we needed colour to spread “sunshine” into the area, and the plants to make it a fabulous place to linger in,” she added.

This proposal for The Greenwood Theatre, used by King’s College for lectures and student productions, will form the centrepiece of the organisers’, Team London Bridge and Cityscapes, landscape design festival this summer. The project also forms part of The Mayor’s Pocket Parks Programme, designed to create inviting green spaces in the heart of the city.
